IDF and Shin Bet: Hamas Rafah Commander Eliminated Was Involved in Hostage Holding
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet security agency announced on Tuesday that the commander of Hamas's Rafah Brigade, Nael Abu Aid, who was eliminated earlier this week in the Gaza Strip, was involved in the abduction and holding of Israeli soldiers and civilians for years, including during the current war.
Following extensive intelligence research, the agencies revealed that Abu Aid played a role in holding Israeli soldiers and civilians captive. In 2014, he served as deputy commander of the Rafah Brigade and was involved in holding fallen IDF officer Hadar Goldin captive. Throughout the recent war, Abu Aid was also implicated in holding several hostages, including Sergeant Nimrod Cohen, within underground infrastructure in the Rafah area.
The elimination of Abu Aid is described by the IDF and Shin Bet as a significant "closing of the circle" in their efforts against Hamas operatives. The agencies stated they will continue to act forcefully against terrorists who participated in the October 7th massacre.
