Kaan News Director Dies in Cycling Accident on Route 44
Itzik Barashi, a veteran director at Kaan News, died over the weekend from injuries sustained in a bicycle accident on Route 44 near the Nesherim interchange. Barashi, 56, was found unconscious with a severe head injury by Magen David Adom paramedics who provided medical treatment and transported him to the hospital via a mobile intensive care unit. His death was pronounced at the hospital.
Barashi joined the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation in 2018 and was known for his professionalism and commitment to Kaan News broadcasts, both during routine times and wartime. Colleagues at Kaan News mourned his passing, with the corporation stating, "Kaan News mourns the death of our colleague, Itzik Barashi, a valued director in the news division." News anchor Ayala Hasson also paid tribute, describing Barashi as a "family man, devoted father, excellent professional, and most importantly, a good person, a friend." She noted that he was scheduled to work with her on the day of the report, as he had for countless broadcasts.
Barashi is survived by his wife, Shirley, and their three children, Keran, Roi, and Itai. Details regarding his funeral have not yet been released.
