Kan News Director Yitzhak Barashi Dies in Cycling Accident

Yitzhak Barashi, a director at the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation's news division, died Saturday morning in a cycling accident on Highway 44 near the Nesherim interchange. Barashi, 54, joined the corporation in 2018 shortly after its establishment and served as a director for Kan News, covering numerous broadcasts including wartime coverage.

Kan News issued a statement mourning the loss of their "valued colleague, Yitzhak Barashi, a respected director in the news division, who was killed this morning in a cycling accident on Highway 44 near the Nesherim interchange." The statement further described him as "one of the most professional and talented directors at Kan News," who joined the corporation nearly at its inception and covered broadcasts with professionalism and commitment through routine and wartime.

Ayala Hasson, a journalist, expressed her grief, stating, "We began this day with bitter news, our beloved director from the news, Yitzhak Barashi, was killed in a road accident while riding his bicycle." She recalled a recent warm exchange and good wishes for the new year, contrasting it with his sudden death, leaving behind a wife and three children. Hasson described him as "a family man, a devoted father, an excellent professional, and most importantly, a good person, a friend," adding, "Rest in peace, dear Barashi, I will miss you dearly." Barashi is survived by his wife, Shirley, and their children, Keran, Roi, and Itai.
