Unseasonal Rains Expected in Northern and Central Israel

Unseasonably heavy rain is forecast for northern and central Israel on Friday, with some areas potentially receiving up to 15 millimeters of precipitation. While most regions will see lighter showers, the Western Galilee, northern coast, and Sharon area could experience intermittent heavy rainfall. These amounts are significant for September, a month that typically sees very little rain, often just a few millimeters or none at all. This event follows unusual rainfall patterns observed in August, including approximately 30 millimeters in Jerusalem mid-month and 10 millimeters in central Israel at the end of the month.

The forecast for the coming days indicates partly cloudy skies and a noticeable drop in temperatures, particularly in mountainous and inland areas, where temperatures will be slightly below seasonal averages. Localized rain is expected in the north and center, with a possibility of isolated thunderstorms in the north. Winds will strengthen across most regions, and the rain is expected to diminish by the afternoon. Overnight, skies will remain partly cloudy with a chance of light drizzle or local rain, mainly along the coastal plain.

Saturday is not expected to bring significant temperature changes, with light drizzle or rain possible in the north and along the coast until the afternoon. Sunday will start partly cloudy before clearing up, with a slight rise in temperatures to seasonal norms. Monday will continue the trend of slight warming with fair weather. Long-range forecasts suggest further rain events are possible in the coming weeks, particularly in October.
