Unseasonal Heavy Rainstorm Expected in Israel Starting Saturday Night

An unusual weather system is forecast to hit Israel starting Saturday night, bringing significant and intense rainfall, a rare event for this time of year. Meteorologist Nahum Malik from Meteo-Tech warned in an interview that the heavy rains could cause floods, flash floods, and damage. Malik explained that this system is atypical for the season, as such storms are usually seen in autumn and winter. The rain is expected to begin mainly on Saturday night and continue until Sunday afternoon.

Malik noted that Saturday will still be warm, but temperatures will drop overnight with the arrival of the system, though not to typical autumn or winter levels. The weather event is relatively short-lived, ending by Sunday afternoon, with no rain expected on Monday. Despite its brevity, the system could produce unusually strong rainfall for summer, which Malik described as unprecedented in Israel.

He linked the phenomenon to broader climatic changes and noted that recent weeks have already seen unusual rain in areas like Jerusalem, the Judean Desert, and the Jordan Valley. Long-term forecasts also suggest a potentially rainy autumn and early winter. While the rain is welcome after a dry spell, Malik cautioned that the intensity could lead to dangerous flooding and damage.
