Israeli Police Arrest Man for Tampering with Baby Food
Israeli police have concluded a complex investigation into the alleged tampering of baby fruit purees with anesthetic substances. The investigation, conducted by the Crime Fighting Unit in Jerusalem with the assistance of the Shin Bet security agency, led to the arrest of a 41-year-old suspect, Yan Shamla, a resident of Beersheba.
Shamla is accused of purchasing "Prinoch" brand products, injecting them with anesthetic materials, and then returning them to supermarket shelves. Police stated that initially, there was no apparent direct connection between the suspect and the affected infants or products.
Investigators analyzed hundreds of hours of security camera footage and employed advanced technological methods to identify Shamla. Following his identification, a covert surveillance operation was conducted to gather further evidence before his arrest at his home.
The prosecution has filed a statement of charges against Shamla and requested his continued detention for an additional five days pending the indictment. The investigation is described as one of the most sensitive and complex handled by the Jerusalem district in recent times.
