Man Arrested for Tampering with Supermarket Goods with Sedatives

Police are preparing to indict Yan Shamla, a man in his 40s from southern Israel, for allegedly introducing sedative substances into products at "Zol u'Vagadol" supermarket branches. Shamla reportedly stole items, administered sedatives, and returned them to the shelves approximately two months ago. He also documented his actions with a camera, though his motives remain unclear. The indictment is expected to include serious charges such as intentional poisoning of infant food, use of poison endangering life, theft, and negligent handling of medications, according to Kan 11. Shamla was arrested last week following a breakthrough in the investigation, which began about two and a half months ago when the case first came to light. Court documents reveal Shamla has a psychiatric history, with his defense attorney claiming he suffers from bipolar disorder. However, police stated he was evaluated at Eitanim Psychiatric Hospital and found fit for detention. The court found significant reasonable suspicion against Shamla, noting the potential for evidence tampering and deeming him clearly dangerous.
