Suspect Filmed Drugging Products, Returning Them to Store Shelves
An investigation into the "Prinook" affair has revealed that the suspect, Yan Shamla, entered branches of the "Zol U'Begalol" supermarket chain, stole products, injected them with anesthetic substances, and then returned them to the shelves. Police possess documentation of these actions, as reported Tuesday by Kan News on Reshet Bet.
The motive behind Shamla's actions remains unclear. Today, a statement of intent to indict will be filed with the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court, with the aim of submitting a formal indictment in the coming days. A week ago, the court permitted the publication of Shamla's name; he is a resident of the south in his 40s.
Shamla is suspected of a series of serious offenses, including the intentional poisoning of infant and toddler food, using poison to endanger life, theft, and negligent handling of medications. He was arrested last week following a breakthrough in the investigation, which was first exposed by Kan News about two and a half months ago.
Details from his remand hearing indicate Shamla has a psychiatric background. His defense attorney claimed Shamla suffers from bipolar disorder. However, according to the police, shortly before his arrest, Shamla was referred for examination at the Eitanim Psychiatric Hospital and was found fit for detention.
