Man Suspected of Tampering with "Prunok" Products with Anesthetics
Israeli police announced Wednesday that their investigation into the alleged tampering of "Prunok" products with anesthetic substances is nearing completion. The primary suspect, Yan Shamla, a resident of Beersheba, is accused of purchasing "Prunok" products from two "Zol U'Begalol" branches in Jerusalem, injecting them with anesthetics, and then returning them to store shelves.
A statement of charges is expected to be filed by the police soon, with an indictment anticipated in the coming days. Police are also seeking to detain Shamla until the conclusion of legal proceedings.
Investigators have been trying to determine Shamla's motive for the alleged actions but have been unsuccessful. While Shamla has admitted to involvement in the events during questioning, he has not cooperated in explaining why he did it. Police obtained evidence about three weeks ago that led to a breakthrough in the case.
Around the end of August, investigators identified the suspect, a man in his 40s from southern Israel, and arrested him at his home. Police stated they are also investigating the possibility that others may be involved.
