Netanyahu Overrules Minister Katz, Keeps Land Authority Head in Place
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has intervened in a dispute between Welfare and Social Services Minister Haim Katz and the acting director of the Israel Land Authority, Yehuda Eliyahu, ordering that Eliyahu remain in his position despite the minister's apparent intentions.
Minister Katz had unexpectedly summoned Eliyahu, following a period of strained relations between the two. Eliyahu is considered by many on the right to be a critical ideological appointment, and significant opposition arose against any move to dismiss him.
As controversy surrounding the situation escalated, the Prime Minister's Office issued a statement from Netanyahu asserting that Eliyahu would retain his post, effectively overriding Minister Katz's actions.
