US Destroys Iranian Tankers; Iran Launches Missiles at Jordan

Iran launched 20 ballistic missiles toward Jordan overnight, with the Jordanian army reporting that 18 were intercepted and two landed in open areas without causing casualties. Interceptions were also observed over Israel. The missile barrage followed a U.S. operation that destroyed five Iranian oil tankers. According to U.S. officials, the action was a response to an attempted attack by Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on a U.S. Navy warship using ballistic missiles. The warship evaded the attack, and no U.S. personnel were harmed.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated, "Every time Iran tries to hit our Navy ships, it will lose oil tankers." The IRGC claimed the missile launch at Jordan was retaliation for the U.S. strike on the tankers. In a parallel statement, the IRGC asserted it simultaneously attacked two U.S. vessels and eight oil tankers in the Persian Gulf.

The U.S. reiterated that its destruction of the five tankers was a direct response to Iran's attempts to strike the Navy ship. Both sides reported further maritime actions. The IRGC claimed to have attacked vessels attempting to transit a zone it declared "forbidden and unsafe" in the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. subsequently released footage of its strike on the Iranian oil tankers.
