Israel's Central Bank to Allow Mobile Deposit of Post-Dated Checks
Starting September 2, 2026, the Bank of Israel will enable the deposit of post-dated checks through mobile banking applications. This new service will be rolled out gradually over the coming weeks, with full implementation expected by October.
The service will only accept "crossed" checks designated for "payee only." There will be a total deposit limit of 100,000 shekels, and checks can be no more than 13 months past their deposit date. The system will operate 24/7, eliminating the need for customers to visit a physical bank branch.
Instead of the bank physically holding the check, customers will retain the original document. A photograph of the check will be stored digitally and automatically presented for payment on the due date. Data from the check's magnetic stripe and its payment date will be transmitted to banks to prevent duplicate use.
In 2025, the total volume of check transactions in Israel reached approximately 640 billion shekels, representing about 5% of the total turnover of primary payment methods in the economy. This operational enhancement for processing deferred checks is anticipated to significantly save time, costs, and resources for both the public and the banking sector.
