Rabies Cases Confirmed in Dogs in Samaria Settlements

Israel's Ministry of Health has reported new cases of rabies in dogs in two communities in the Samaria region. A medium-to-large, mixed-breed brown dog with white markings was found to be rabid in Beit Aryeh, near Al-Zait and Tirosh streets. Nine individuals who had contact with this dog have begun receiving preventative treatment.

Additionally, a medium-to-large, white Canaan dog with brown spots was identified as rabid in the settlement of Eli. Two people who had contact with this dog have been directed to receive preventative treatment.

The Ministry of Health is urging anyone who had contact with these infected animals, or whose pets had contact with them or with stray animals in the affected areas, to contact their local health bureau to assess the need for preventative treatment. Those who may have encountered the rabid dog in Beit Aryeh between August 22 and September 5, 2026, inclusive, should urgently contact the Ramle district health bureau at 08-9181202. Similarly, those who encountered the rabid dog in Eli between September 1 and September 5, 2026, inclusive, should also contact the Ramle district health bureau at the same number. During non-working hours and on weekends, individuals should go to the hospital emergency room.

Parents are asked to check with their children about any contact with suspicious animals and to seek immediate medical attention if such contact occurred. Pet owners are advised to consult their municipal veterinarian and verify their pets' vaccination status. The Ministry of Health also requests that information about these incidents be disseminated to tourists and visitors in the area and nearby communities.

The ministry reiterated that in the event of a bite or scratch from an animal, the wound should be immediately washed with soap and running water, disinfected, and medical attention sought to determine if rabies preventative treatment is necessary.
