Rabies Cases Confirmed in Beit Aryeh and Eli; Public Urged to Seek Treatment

Israel's Ministry of Health has reported two confirmed cases of rabies in dogs, one in Beit Aryeh and another in Eli. The first case involved a medium to large-sized mixed-breed dog, brown with white markings, found in Beit Aryeh on Hazit and Tirosh streets. Nine individuals who had contact with this dog have begun receiving preventative treatment.

The second case was a medium to large-sized Canaan dog, white with brown patches, discovered in Eli. Two people who had contact with this dog have been referred for preventative treatment. Both reports were received on September 6, 2026.

The Ministry of Health is urging anyone who came into contact with the infected dogs, or whose animals may have interacted with them or stray animals in the affected areas, to report to a health office for assessment of the need for preventative treatment. Those exposed to the Beit Aryeh dog between August 22 and September 5, 2026, should contact the sub-district health office in Ramle. Individuals exposed to the Eli dog between September 1 and September 5, 2026, should also contact the Ramle office or their nearest health office. After hours, emergency rooms should be visited.

Parents are asked to inquire if their children have touched any suspected animals and to seek medical attention. Pet owners are advised to check their animals' vaccination status with their local authority veterinarian. The public is also asked to share this information with others in the affected areas and neighboring communities. The Ministry reiterated that anyone bitten or scratched by an animal should immediately wash the wound with soap and running water, disinfect it, and seek medical advice regarding rabies treatment.
