Maccabi Tel Aviv Signs James Tavernier, Making Him Highest-Paid Player in League
Maccabi Tel Aviv announced on Monday the signing of James Tavernier, a prominent acquisition for the Israeli Premier League. Tavernier, a 34-year-old right-back who spent 11 seasons with Scottish club Rangers, has agreed to a one-year contract with an option for an additional year.
His salary will be €700,000 per season, establishing him as the highest-earning player in the Israeli Premier League's history. Tavernier previously played alongside Kenny Miller at Rangers, and will now play under him at Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Tavernier will wear the number 2 jersey and could make his debut as early as Monday evening in a match against Hapoel Be'er Sheva.
