Israeli Security Forces Arrest Teenager for ISIS Allegiance

Israeli security forces have arrested a 19-year-old resident of Shibli, in northern Israel, on suspicion of identifying with the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist organization. The arrest, conducted by the Shin Bet and the Northern District Police, followed an investigation that revealed the suspect, Yaakov Shibli, had viewed ISIS content and pledged allegiance to the group.

This incident marks the fourth such case in recent days involving residents of northern Israel accused of sympathizing with ISIS, indicating a potential rise in the organization's threat within the country. Following his interrogation, the Northern District Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment against Shibli in the Nazareth-Galilee Magistrate's Court, charging him with membership in a terrorist organization.

The Shin Bet and Israel Police emphasized in a joint statement their commitment to combating activities that endanger national security. "We will continue to act decisively to thwart any activity against the State of Israel," they stated.

Security officials have noted an increase in the threat level from ISIS and its supporters in Israel since the outbreak of the war. Previous arrests in recent months include a 20-year-old man from Nahf who allegedly pledged allegiance and planned an attack on IDF soldiers, and a 15-year-old minor found with instructions for making a suicide belt after pledging allegiance to the group.
