Israel Launches Major Military Drill Simulating Surprise Attack

A large-scale security exercise, codenamed "Kidmat Homah," commenced Monday morning in the city of Eilat, the Arava region, and along the eastern border. The drill, led by the IDF's 80th Division, simulates a surprise attack and infiltration into Israeli territory from the air, sea, and land.

Participating forces include the IDF, Israel Police, Magen David Adom (MDA), and other security and rescue organizations. Simultaneously, the Southern District of the Israel Police is conducting its own exercise, "Darom Ruach," led by District Commander Superintendent Chaim Boblil and involving officers from the Eilat region under the command of Superintendent Alon Kalfon.

The exercise aims to test the readiness of forces for escalation and improve coordination between all responding bodies. It will involve practicing responses to developing security events across multiple fronts, defending Eilat and Arava communities, controlling traffic routes, maintaining public order, and transitioning rapidly from routine to emergency.

Forces from the Air Force, Navy, and local volunteer emergency response teams are also participating. The drill is part of a broader effort to incorporate lessons learned from the October 7th Hamas attack and subsequent fighting, with the goal of enhancing preparedness for potential escalations.

Residents may observe increased activity of security forces, operational vehicles, aircraft, and naval vessels throughout Eilat, the Arava, and along the eastern border. Both the IDF and Israel Police emphasized that the exercise was planned in advance as part of the 2026 training program and that there is no current security concern.
