Israel Launches Major Security Drill Near Eilat to Test Invasion Scenarios

A large-scale security exercise led by the 80th Division is set to begin Monday in the Eilat and Arava Valley region, aiming to enhance security readiness against complex emergency scenarios. Field operations commenced Sunday with increased security forces, naval vessels, and aircraft activity around Eilat and adjacent areas.

The drill will simulate various threats, including surprise attacks and attempts to invade Israeli territory by air, sea, and land. It will also test the protection of Eilat and surrounding communities, as well as the capabilities of units to utilize air and naval assets for defense. The exercise emphasizes coordination between the military, police, and Magen David Adom (Israel's emergency medical service), along with inter-branch cooperation between ground forces, the air force, and the navy.

These drills are part of an ongoing plan to improve efficiency and readiness, incorporating lessons learned from past military operations and security incidents in Israel. A similar exercise focused on preparing for surprise attacks was conducted in the Golan Heights last week.

Officials stated the current drill was planned in advance as part of the 2026 Operations Directorate's training schedule, designed to bolster the ability to manage diverse scenarios and ensure regional security.
