Israel Security Forces Drill Eilat Terror Infiltration and Hotel Takeover

Israeli security forces conducted a large-scale drill on Monday simulating a scenario of terrorists infiltrating the southern resort city of Eilat and taking over the Princess Hotel. Hundreds of police officers and soldiers participated in the exercise, which was overseen by the commander of the Southern District and the commander of the Southern Command.

In addition to the hotel takeover, the drill included simulations of terrorists seizing control of the Qatzah border crossing, the local police station, and an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) outpost. The exercise aimed to test the readiness of security forces for significant terror attacks in Eilat, a city considered vulnerable due to its proximity to borders.

Southern District Commander Superintendent Chaim Bublil stated last week that the threat to Eilat necessitates constant vigilance, acknowledging the possibility of a major terror incident. Eilat's Police District Commander, Superintendent Alon Kalfon, noted that the drill provided a crucial opportunity to evaluate inter-agency cooperation under realistic conditions and to identify lessons for future preparedness and training.

The drill took place against a backdrop of ongoing security concerns in the region, with security officials emphasizing the need to be prepared for various threats at all times.
