Israel Conducts Major Security Drill in Eilat, Learning from October 7

A large-scale security exercise, codenamed "Southern Wind" by police and "Kidmat Choma" by the IDF, commenced Monday morning in the Eilat and Arava region. The drill involves the Israel Police and the IDF, incorporating lessons learned from the "Swords of Iron" war and the October 7th attacks.

Participants include police officers from the Eilat region, forces from Division 80, the Air Force, the Navy, and additional security and rescue agencies. Throughout the day, increased activity of operational vehicles, aircraft, and naval vessels is expected in Eilat, the Arava, and along the eastern border.

The exercise simulates extreme emergency scenarios, such as surprise attacks, developing security incidents, multiple combat zones, controlling traffic routes, maintaining public order, and providing a rapid, integrated response involving all security bodies. Eilat police will practice transitioning quickly from routine to emergency operations, commanding multiple simultaneous events, and cooperating with the IDF, rescue services, and volunteer emergency response teams in Eilat and the Arava communities.

The IDF stated that "Kidmat Choma" is based on lessons from October 7th, aiming to enhance Division 80's readiness for wide-scale surprise attacks and escalation scenarios in the sector. Security officials emphasized that the drill was pre-planned and that despite the significant troop and vehicle movement, there is no immediate security concern.
