IDF Launches Major Drills in Eilat, Citing Lessons from October 7

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) commenced a large-scale exercise named "Kadmat Homah" (Front of the Wall) on Monday in the Eilat region and along the eastern border, under the command of Division 80. The drill aims to enhance the division's readiness and capabilities to confront extreme scenarios, regional escalation, and surprise attacks.

The IDF stated that the exercise is based on "deep lessons learned from the events of October 7." All units within Division 80 are participating, along with forces from the Air Force, Navy, and other security agencies. Residents and visitors in the Eilat area may observe increased military activity, including vehicles, aircraft, and naval vessels, but are assured it is a planned exercise and not indicative of a security incident.

This drill follows a separate, extensive surprise military exercise conducted Sunday called "Aliot Ha'shachar 2.0" (Sunrise 2.0), overseen by Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi. That exercise involved simulating combat in seven simultaneous arenas, including terrorist infiltrations in the north, Judea, and Samaria, missile impacts near the Gaza border fence and the Azrieli Center in Tel Aviv, and clearing a community of terrorists in Tze'elim and Sderot.

The IDF emphasized that readiness levels have significantly increased, with these complex drills being part of ongoing efforts to learn from combat and the October 7 attacks, as well as preparing for the upcoming holiday season. All units in the nationwide exercise were set to readiness level 1, with Gaza forces at level 2, and military inspectors were deployed to assess real-time performance and transitions between different operational zones.
