IDF Launches Surprise Drill Simulating Multi-Front War

The Israeli military launched a surprise, large-scale exercise early Sunday morning, codenamed "Dawn's Dawn 2.0," to test its readiness for a sudden, multi-front war scenario, just before the Jewish holidays. The drill encompasses all operational arenas, including Lebanon, Syria, the West Bank, Gaza, and the eastern and southern borders. High levels of secrecy were maintained to assess the army's actual preparedness, including that of senior officers and generals.

Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir initiated the drill to examine the alert and readiness levels of the General Staff and key commands, and their ability to manage a complex, multi-front incident. The exercise involves calling up reserve and ready forces to test their rapid response capabilities to sudden security scenarios. It also includes practicing airborne battalion deployment and ground training exercises.

Commanders across various directorates, branches, and units are being summoned, and all headquarters, from the General Staff down to regional commands, are facing scenarios designed to test their decision-making and event management skills across multiple fronts simultaneously. Zamir is observing the drill and scenario management from the High Command Center and in the field. Increased movement of security forces and aircraft is expected across various regions in Israel.

The military emphasized that the exercise is not linked to any real security event and there is no exceptional security threat. The observed troop and aircraft activity is solely due to the drill. The exercise aims to evaluate readiness for a wide range of sudden operational scenarios, including activating reserve forces and resources, and testing decision-making and operational response at all levels.

This drill is part of an ongoing effort to enhance the IDF's preparedness, implement operational plans, and integrate lessons learned from combat on various fronts, including the events of October 7. Concurrently, army inspectors from regular and reserve forces are conducting inspections to assess operational efficiency and readiness. "Dawn's Dawn 2.0" is part of the Operations Directorate's 2026 annual training program and aims to bolster defense and readiness ahead of the holiday period.
