IDF Launches Surprise Multi-Front War Game Unannounced to Generals

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched a large-scale, surprise military exercise early Sunday morning, simulating a sudden outbreak of security events across multiple fronts simultaneously. The drill, codenamed "Dawn Break 2.0," was conducted under extreme secrecy, with only a very small group of individuals aware of its activation. The objective, according to the IDF, was to test the military's readiness in real-time, even surprising its own top generals.

Upon the exercise's commencement, commanders across all regional commands, branches, and directorates were mobilized. The IDF is also examining the potential mobilization of reserve and readiness forces, with one battalion scheduled for a simulated airborne deployment and subsequent ground operation. The exercise focuses on a complex, large-scale, multi-front scenario, designed to assess how different levels of the IDF respond to unexpected events, from initial alert and force deployment to decision-making processes in command centers and the General Staff.

Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi is overseeing the exercise from the IDF's command post and in the field, while military inspectors are evaluating the readiness and fitness of units and commands. The IDF stated that lessons learned from recent combat and the events of October 7 are being incorporated into the drill. The exercise is part of preparations for the upcoming holiday season and the Operations Directorate's 2026 training plan. Increased military vehicle and aircraft activity is expected nationwide throughout the day, with the IDF assuring the public that this is part of the exercise and not indicative of an actual security incident.
