Border Guard's Family Denounces Rumors After Fatal Police Shooting

The family of David Hawayer Amrani, a Border Guard officer killed by police in Netanya, has strongly condemned the "rumors and speculations" circulating on social media following his death. According to I24NEWS, the family stated they are awaiting autopsy results and will not comment on the details of the incident until all answers are received. They emphasized that anyone spreading "rumors and nonsense" is disrespectful and harms Amrani's honor, urging the public to stop the speculation and allow the family to mourn with dignity.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening in Netanya's Kiryat HaSharon neighborhood. Amrani, 20, was reportedly walking the streets armed with an M-16 rifle and fired bursts into the air, allegedly towards residential buildings, causing panic among residents. Police forces responded around 7 p.m., identifying Amrani as a suspect engaged in terrorist activity. When Amrani began walking towards officers while continuing to fire, a brief exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in his neutralization. Paramedics provided initial treatment, but he was later pronounced dead. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported among police or civilians.

Initial suspicions that the incident might be a terrorist attack were quickly dismissed by investigators. Amrani had been serving in the Border Guard since August 2024, initially in the Hebron area and later in a different company. He is survived by his parents and two siblings. The Israel Police and Border Guard are continuing to investigate the complex circumstances of the event, expressing their condolences to the family and pledging continued support.
