Border Police Officer Killed in Friendly Fire Incident in Netanya

Sergeant David Hoyer Amrani, a 20-year-old Border Police officer, was killed in a tragic friendly fire incident in Netanya on Saturday evening. According to an initial investigation, Amrani, a resident of Netanya, arrived at a scene with a long weapon and began firing at officers. The forces present, including other officers and Border Police fighters, responded and neutralized him. It was later revealed that the neutralized suspect was Amrani himself. The Israel Police and Border Police expressed their condolences to the family and pledged continued support. Amrani, who was posthumously recognized as a fallen soldier, enlisted in the Border Police in August 2024. He served in Hebron with the Judea and Samaria Border Police unit before transferring to Company Lamed Tet of the same unit approximately eight months ago. He is survived by his parents and two siblings. The police are investigating the possibility that Amrani was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder at the time of the incident.
