New Study Reveals Alarming 94% Surge in Israeli Doctors Emigrating
A new study from Tel Aviv University, utilizing data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, indicates a significant and concerning rise in the emigration of physicians from Israel. Between 2023 and 2025, a total of 1,369 doctors left the country for at least one year. The year 2024 marked a peak, with 530 physicians departing, followed by 419 in 2023 and an estimated 420 in 2025.
This represents a dramatic 94% increase compared to the decade prior, when only 705 doctors emigrated between 2013 and 2015. The study also highlights a shift in the demographics of those leaving. From 2023 to 2025, experienced doctors aged 45 and older constituted approximately 20% of all emigrants, meaning one in five departing physicians was in this age group. This is a notable increase from the previous decade, when doctors in the same age bracket made up only 14% of emigrants, or one in seven.
