Child Hospitalized in Serious Condition with Brain Inflammation Suspected from Sea of Galilee
A nine-year-old boy is in serious condition, sedated and on a respirator in the intensive care unit at Rambam Hospital, suffering from brain inflammation. The Ministry of Health confirmed the case, stating that a sample sent for testing on Tuesday night corroborated the suspicion that the child contracted the rare amoeba infection.
The infection is believed to have been contracted from the Sea of Galilee, a popular tourist and recreational site in northern Israel. The specific type of amoeba has not yet been identified, but such infections are rare and can be fatal.
