US Ambassador Mike Huckabee Films Settlers, Vows Action

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee visited the Palestinian town of Turmus Ayya, near Ramallah, following recent acts of violence and hate speech directed at him. During the visit, accompanied by consular staff and General Sean Sallin, Huckabee personally filmed settlers who approached a house flying an American flag, which had been previously targeted by attempts to infiltrate it. He emphasized that there are no Israeli or American plans to forcibly displace Palestinians from Gaza and stressed that violent settler crimes in the West Bank must be met with severe punishment.

The ambassador's visit came as approximately 80% of Turmus Ayya's 3,000 residents hold American citizenship. Huckabee witnessed another attempt by settlers to access local residents' property. He documented this incident on his mobile phone and shared the video on social media, condemning the "criminal and shameful acts" of the trespassers and stating they do not represent the vast majority of Israelis. He described these actions against American citizens as a form of terrorism and urged Israeli authorities to act decisively to ensure Palestinian residents' safety and prosecute offenders.

These strong statements followed previous threats and hate speech directed at Huckabee, including graffiti on a mosque in the village of Bazaria near Nablus, in response to his earlier condemnations of nationalist crime in the village of Qusra. Huckabee sarcastically noted the perpetrators spelled his name correctly and admitted their actions. Regarding discussions about Gaza's future and potential "encouragement of emigration," Huckabee reiterated that no Israeli or American plan exists to force displacement from Gaza. However, he acknowledged an openness to allowing residents to leave voluntarily if they choose, stating it is inappropriate to force people to remain where they do not wish to be.

Concurrently, Israeli security forces, police, and the Shin Bet are continuing investigations into recent violent disturbances in Qusra and Jalud. Vehicles suspected of being used in the riots have been confiscated, and authorities anticipate arrests of key suspects whose identities are known to security agencies in the coming days.
