Man Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash in Lahav Forest; Road Deaths Soar

A man, approximately 40 years old, was killed in a single-vehicle accident on an access road in Lahav Forest near the Lehavim interchange in the Negev on Sunday. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. Another man, around 35 years old, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba. The incident occurred shortly after midnight, with emergency services receiving the report at 00:17.

Paramedics described the scene as a car with severe damage on all sides, apparently having rolled over. The deceased, found outside the vehicle, suffered extensive, life-threatening injuries. This latest fatality adds to a grim summer on Israeli roads, which has seen a significant increase in traffic deaths.

Earlier on Sunday, a one-year-old toddler was critically injured in Jerusalem, reportedly after being hit by a car reversing in a home driveway. The previous night, a 48-year-old motorcyclist died in a self-inflicted accident on Route 7 near the Sorek interchange. The week prior, a seven-year-old girl died in Kfar Qara after being struck by a tractor driven by a relative.

These incidents contribute to a disturbing trend. The number of road fatalities in Israel this year has surpassed 300. August alone was the deadliest month of the year, with 44 deaths, and the worst August in 22 years. The summer months of June, July, and August collectively marked the deadliest summer in two decades, with 122 fatalities, an increase from the previous year. This marks the fourth consecutive year of rising summer road deaths. The summer also saw the highest number of child fatalities in a decade, with 12 children under 14 killed, compared to eight the previous summer.
