Israel Captures Ali Taher Ridge in Lebanon, Defense Minister Says

Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that the capture of the Ali Taher ridge in southern Lebanon marks a significant step in consolidating Israel's hold on the security zone north of the border. Katz stated that the operation followed maneuvers towards the Litani River line, the capture of the Beaufort area, and the establishment of IDF forces on commanding ridges, which provide an additional layer of defense for northern Israeli communities.

The decision to advance on Ali Taher was prompted by intelligence indicating Hezbollah operated a tunnel system there for command, control, and operational direction. Katz asserted that this underground complex served as a command post for operations against IDF forces and northern Israel, and that the ridge was a key control point for Hezbollah's defense of the Nabatieh area, strategically important to the organization.

The operation, conducted under challenging terrain conditions, involved both offensive actions and defense of the forces involved. Katz noted that due to the sensitivity and the need to protect soldiers, the operation was kept under strict secrecy. He personally monitored the activity and maintained contact with troops on the ground.

"I salute the determination of the IDF command and the bravery of the fighters," Katz said, adding that the tunnels were cleared of terrorists after a complex and systematic effort. He indicated that the IDF plans to neutralize remaining underground infrastructure and secure the ridge to prevent Hezbollah's re-establishment there.

Katz linked the operation to the broader government policy on the northern front, emphasizing that neither Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nor the defense establishment intends to withdraw from the security zone in southern Lebanon until Hezbollah is disarmed and threats to northern Israeli communities are removed. He described the capture of Ali Taher ridge as a crucial element in altering the security reality along the northern border, limiting Hezbollah's operational freedom, and strengthening the defense of Galilee residents.
