Israel Completes Lebanon Operation Amid Iran's Escalation Threats

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the completion of an operation to clear the strategic Al-Tahir ridge in southern Lebanon, a key Hezbollah defensive site. Israeli forces secured the area, dismantling both surface and underground infrastructure belonging to the militant group. The operation involved the 36th Division, which cleared two underground Hezbollah facilities, resulting in the elimination or withdrawal of militants. This action grants Israel operational control over the ridge and its subterranean network.

Amid these developments, Iran has reportedly warned Washington through Oman of a severe response should Israel launch a large-scale offensive. This Iranian concern is reportedly linked to the possible presence of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) personnel within the Hezbollah fortifications. Regional sources suggest over ten IRGC members, including two senior officers, may have been in the area, though reports on the extent of their presence vary, with some Israeli military sources indicating minimal IRGC presence now.

The Al-Tahir ridge is considered vital to Hezbollah's defense, housing a network of underground facilities, including a command center and weapons depots. The IDF views it as a primary operational hub for Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, allegedly used even after ceasefire agreements. Israel's strategy appears to involve not only clearing the territory but also isolating remaining militants by cutting supply routes and neutralizing drones used for provisions.

Hezbollah has not confirmed nor denied Iran's warning but stated Tehran's reaction is natural given Israel's actions. The group considers a large-scale ground assault on the ridge a violation of existing agreements, potentially triggering renewed full-scale hostilities and further rocket attacks on northern Israel. The conclusion of the IDF operation thus carries the risk of wider escalation between Israel, Hezbollah, and Iran.
