MK Tali Gottlieb Leaves Likud for Ben Gvir's Jewish Power Party

Member of Knesset Tali Gottlieb has reached a dramatic political agreement to run on the Otzma Yehudit (Jewish Power) slate, headed by Itamar Ben Gvir, in the upcoming 26th Knesset elections. The deal, revealed on Thursday, allows Gottlieb to switch parties without facing sanctions under the defection law, which typically bars lawmakers from running on a list represented in the Knesset. In return, Gottlieb has pledged to maintain Likud party discipline and support its positions on all votes until the current Knesset term concludes.

The move follows days of intense tension between Gottlieb and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's circle and Likud campaign leaders. Gottlieb had claimed attempts were being made to sideline her in the primaries and push her back, while avoiding confrontation with officials and the High Court. The Likud responded briefly, stating, "We wish Tali success."

Political analysts suggest the agreement benefits both sides. It strengthens the ideological right-wing of Otzma Yehudit, ensuring the consolidation of votes within that bloc. Simultaneously, it allows the Likud to appeal to a more moderate center-right voter base.
