Iran Threatens Retaliation as Israel Intensifies Hezbollah Operations in Southern Lebanon

Iran has threatened a powerful response if Israel continues its military operations in the Al-Taher mountain range in southern Lebanon, where Tehran claims Revolutionary Guard members are located. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that Israel would act without restraint against Iran if attacked, but intelligence suggests Hezbollah aims to provoke a direct confrontation between Iran and Israel.

New details have emerged regarding the intense IDF operation in the Al-Taher range, a strategic area overlooking key transportation routes and serving as a Hezbollah command post. The operation, described as high-intensity, aims to dismantle Hezbollah's capabilities in the region and systematically dismantle its "Badr" unit. Israeli forces are systematically destroying fortified underground infrastructure, reportedly causing significant casualties among Hezbollah fighters and forcing some to flee.

The IDF is proceeding cautiously, employing a strategy of gradually increasing pressure to neutralize the fortified underground network while minimizing risks to soldiers. A small number of Hezbollah fighters remain trapped, and the IDF possesses the capabilities to conclude the operation once political directives are received.

Security officials believe Hezbollah is attempting to draw Iran into a direct conflict with Israel, likely due to the heavy losses it is sustaining in the Al-Taher range and fears of losing strategic strongholds. This comes after reports that Iran warned the United States of a forceful response if Israel operated in the range, alleging the presence of 12 Iranian Revolutionary Guard members, including two senior officers. The IDF has stated it is unaware of any Iranian presence in the area.

In response to the threats, Defense Minister Katz warned that an Iranian attack would remove all existing limitations on Israel's actions, potentially targeting military and civilian infrastructure in Iran, including energy facilities. Katz also suggested that internal pressures within Iran might push the regime towards desperate measures, emphasizing the IDF's readiness for all scenarios.
