Iran Warns Israel of Major Retaliation for Lebanon Attack

Iran has issued a warning to the United States, stating that any significant Israeli attack on the Ali Taher mountain range in southern Lebanon would be met with a large-scale Iranian response. The message was conveyed to Washington in mid-August through Oman, according to three sources cited by Reuters. The area is reportedly a base for over a dozen members of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps, including at least two senior officers, who are allegedly trapped alongside Hezbollah operatives.

A foreign source with direct knowledge of the matter indicated that, following American pressure stemming from Iran's warning, Israel postponed an assault on the mountain range. However, Lebanese media reported that the Israeli military conducted overnight strikes in the vicinity of the range using bunker-buster munitions.

Hezbollah has established an underground command center and weapons depots overlooking southeastern Lebanon in this location. The Israeli military has gained control of extensive areas surrounding the range, making it a central operational hub. Hezbollah's media office stated that any Israeli ground operation would be a severe violation of the Islamabad Agreement, a memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran from June that included a ceasefire in Lebanon.
