Gabi Kanyukovsky Returns to Maccabi Tel Aviv After Year Abroad

Maccabi Tel Aviv announced on Monday the return of Gabi Kanyukovsky, the 29-year-old Israeli national team midfielder. Kanyukovsky rejoins the club for a reported transfer fee of 1.2 million euros, signing a four-year contract. He is set to earn approximately 600,000 euros net per season and will wear the number 16 jersey again.

Kanyukovsky departed Maccabi Tel Aviv last summer on a free transfer to Ferencváros of Hungary. During his year with the Hungarian club, he won the Hungarian Cup, participated in the Europa League campaign, made 21 appearances in European competitions, and scored eight goals in 56 total matches.

He originally came up through Maccabi Tel Aviv's youth academy, debuting for the senior team in October 2015. After loan spells at Hapoel Petah Tikva and Hapoel Acre, he returned to Maccabi Tel Aviv in the summer of 2021 from Maccabi Netanya. In his previous four seasons with the club, he scored 27 goals and provided 46 assists in 194 games across all competitions. He was part of two league championships, two Toto Cups, and the Champions of Champions Cup.

In European competitions with Maccabi Tel Aviv, Kanyukovsky reached the Europa League group stage once (2024-25), the Conference League group stage twice (2021-22 and 2023-24), the Round of 32 once, and the Round of 16 once. For the Israeli national team, he has earned 21 caps and scored one goal.
