Gabi Kaniovsky Returns to Maccabi Tel Aviv on Four-Year Deal

Gabi Kaniovsky, 29, is returning to Maccabi Tel Aviv after reaching an agreement with Ferencváros for his transfer. Kaniovsky will sign a four-year contract and will wear the number 16 jersey, marking his return to the club where he began his career. He had left Maccabi Tel Aviv just last summer upon the expiration of his contract, joining the Hungarian champions on a free transfer.

Kaniovsky concludes a single season with Ferencváros, during which he made 56 appearances across all competitions, scoring eight goals. He won the Hungarian league title and the Hungarian Cup with the club, participated in their Europa League campaign, and recorded a total of 21 European appearances. His return is seen as a significant reinforcement for Maccabi Tel Aviv's midfield, especially following an additional injury to Kristian Bjelic, who is expected to be sidelined for an extended period.

Beyond the professional need, Kaniovsky's return is also considered a statement of intent by Maccabi Tel Aviv, as the squad is anticipated to undergo further changes. For Kaniovsky, this move represents another full circle in his career. He is a product of Maccabi Tel Aviv's youth academy and, after leaving at a young age to play for Hapoel Acre and Maccabi Netanya, returned to the club in the summer of 2021. Over the subsequent four seasons, he became a key player, contributing to two consecutive league championships.
