Maccabi Tel Aviv Negotiates Return of Midfielder Gabi Kanyukovsky
Maccabi Tel Aviv has entered negotiations to reacquire midfielder Gabi Kanyukovsky from Hungarian club Ferencváros, according to reports. Kanyukovsky, 29, could return to his former Israeli club less than two years after his departure.
Ferencváros has reportedly agreed to significantly lower their initial asking price, which was around 2.5 million euros. The Israeli transfer window closes on September 16, giving both clubs time to finalize a deal.
Kanyukovsky was a prominent player for Maccabi Tel Aviv, scoring 19 goals in 136 league appearances before moving to Hungary in the summer of 2025. He played approximately 28 league games for Ferencváros last season, also featuring in European competitions.
Recently, Kanyukovsky's role at Ferencváros has diminished, as he was excluded from the squad for league and European playoff matches. While he showed flashes of talent, he struggled to secure a consistent starting position, leading both the player and the club to explore new options.
Sources close to the player indicate he is open to returning to Israel if his financial terms are met. Maccabi Tel Aviv, having concluded their European campaign, has flexibility to complete the transfer before the local transfer deadline.
