Maccabi Tel Aviv Negotiates Return of Midfielder Gabi Kanichovsky Amid Transfer Market Activity

Ahead of the new season and the Conference League playoff preparations, Maccabi Tel Aviv is intensifying its transfer efforts by negotiating the return of midfielder Gabi Kanichovsky. Kanichovsky, who left Maccabi Tel Aviv last season to join Hungarian club Ferencváros, is now considered likely to leave Ferencváros and rejoin his former Israeli club. Hapoel Be'er Sheva is also reportedly interested in acquiring the player.

Kanichovsky is regarded as one of the top Israeli football expatriates and was a key starter for Ferencváros, participating in all their European League qualifying matches this season. His return to Maccabi Tel Aviv is seen as crucial, especially since the team faces a shortage of midfield options following a long-term injury to Christian Blitz and the potential departure of other leading players.

A product of Maccabi Tel Aviv's youth system, Kanichovsky rejoined the senior team in summer 2021 and helped lead them to two consecutive league titles over four years. After his contract ended, he moved to Ferencváros on a free transfer, where he has made 54 appearances, scored eight goals, and provided five assists. Bringing back a senior international player like Kanichovsky would signal Maccabi Tel Aviv's strong ambitions for the upcoming season.
