IDF Pharmacists Arrested for Stealing and Selling Thousands of Military Medications
The Israeli Ministry of Defense and the Israel Police have uncovered a scheme involving two external contract pharmacists who allegedly stole tens of thousands of medications intended for Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers. The investigation, which began covertly several months ago, was conducted by the "Yamar Erezim" unit of the Ministry of Defense's Malmab internal security agency and the Central Investigations Unit of the Military Police, with assistance from the Ministry of Health's enforcement division.
The two suspects, a senior responsible pharmacist at the Glilot base and another pharmacist, are accused of systematically selling prescription and other medications on the black market. Investigators believe they profited tens of thousands of shekels from these illicit sales, posing a significant risk due to the unregulated trade of prescription drugs with potential side effects.
Following the transition of the investigation to a public phase, both pharmacists were arrested at the Glilot base. They are currently being interrogated by "Yamar Erezim" on suspicion of theft by an authorized person, receiving goods under aggravated circumstances, reckless endangerment, and violations of the Pharmacists Ordinance.
