Two IDF Pharmacists Suspected of Stealing and Selling Thousands of Medications

Two veteran pharmacists working at the Glilot military base are suspected of systematically stealing tens of thousands of medications intended for Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers and selling them on the black market. The illicit trade allegedly generated tens of thousands of shekels for the suspects.

A covert investigation, conducted over recent months by the "Erezim" (AH"M) unit of the Ministry of Defense's Investigation and Intelligence Service, along with the Dan District of the Military Police and the Enforcement Division of the Ministry of Health, uncovered the alleged scheme. The investigation focused on a responsible pharmacist at the Glilot base and another pharmacist, both employed as external suppliers by the Ministry of Defense.

Investigators suspect the pair defrauded the IDF by taking tens of thousands of medications, including prescription drugs, and systematically selling them. Authorities emphasized that trading in prescription drugs without proper medical oversight poses a significant public health risk.

Following the transition of the investigation to an open phase, both pharmacists were arrested at the Glilot base and brought in for questioning. They face charges including theft by an authorized person, obtaining property under aggravated circumstances, reckless endangerment, and violations of the Pharmacists Ordinance. Their detention is expected to be extended by the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court.

Additionally, other individuals have been detained for questioning by the investigating units. The Military Police are investigating further involvement in the case, including allegations of aiding and abetting theft and fraud under aggravated circumstances.
