The city of Eilat is completely isolated from vehicular traffic due to severe flooding and stormy weather in southern Israel. The Israel Police announced on Tuesday that all roads leading to and from the southern city have been blocked. The only exception is for departures from Eilat to Ramon Airport. Road 90 is closed along its entire length from the Zohar Junction, through the Arava Junction, to Eilat. Road 12 is also closed between Eilat and the Neot Smadar Junction, effectively blocking the two main access routes to the city. Additional closures are in place on Road 40 between Mitzpe Ramon and Kator Junction, and on Road 13 from Mitzpe Junction to Tzichor Junction. Road 25 is also blocked between Tzofit Junction and Oron Junction.
The extensive road closures were necessitated by severe weather that caused flash floods and inundation of the roadways. Since the morning, police officers from the Southern District, the National Traffic Police, and Border Police have been deployed to prevent vehicles from entering dangerous areas and to ensure driver safety. The police are conducting ongoing assessments of the situation to minimize disruption to daily life. Authorities have not yet provided an estimated time for when the roads will reopen. The police are urging drivers to avoid the closed roads, obey officers' instructions, and check for traffic updates before traveling.
