צה"ל ושב"כ הגבירו את הפעילות המבצעית ברצועת עזה במהלך חג הפסח, במטרה לסכל בכירי חמאס. במסגרת זו, חוסלו שני פעילים מרכזיים בזרוע הצבאית של הארגון, מחמוד חסן עלי אבו נדא ועבד אלרחים אחמד חליל חואר, שהיו פעילים במערך ההנדסה של חמאס.

הפעילות הממוקדת נועדה לפגוע ביכולות ההנדסיות של הארגון, שהן קריטיות לפעילותו הצבאית. חיסול הפעילים מהווה חלק ממאמץ מתמשך של מערכת הביטחון הישראלית לפגוע בתשתיות הטרור של חמאס ולסכל פיגועים עתידיים.
