Eyal Berkovic Questioned Over Driving Incident After Viral Confrontation
Israeli police questioned television host and former footballer Eyal Berkovic under caution on Monday, June 15, 2026, on suspicion of reckless driving. The Haifa resident, in his 50s, was released afterward under restrictive conditions, and the investigation is continuing.
The case stems from a video circulated online by Mordechai David and his supporters, showing David running toward Berkovic’s car while another activist on a motorcycle helped block the road. David climbed onto the car’s hood, shouted, "Run me over, you said you would run me over," and kept filming as Berkovic continued driving.
During questioning, Berkovic described the encounter from his perspective. "Mordechai David opened the door," he said. "He shoved his phone into the car and started swearing, but it was all nonviolent." He added that he kept going because he was confused and did not know how to react.
Berkovic also said, "They ambushed me. Two cars and two motorcycles. Then he jumped on the hood, and I was afraid to stop because he could fall and be run over." Police said another person involved in the incident was also summoned for questioning. David himself was questioned under caution last week.
