Arab Truck Driver Who Threatened Israeli Patriot Panelist Released to House Arrest
An Arab truck driver who collided with the vehicle of Israeli journalist and Patriot panelist Yaki Edmakar and threatened ultra-Orthodox protesters with an iron rod during a demonstration on Highway 1 was released to five days of house arrest after police questioning. The incident occurred last Wednesday amid a large ultra-Orthodox protest against the arrest of Torah students, which caused significant traffic disruptions on Highways 1 and 6 and led to clashes between protesters and other drivers stuck in the congestion.
Edmakar described the encounter on social media, stating that the driver intentionally rammed his car, refused to provide details, spat repeatedly at people, and threw water at other passengers. He criticized the police for their lack of intervention despite numerous such incidents on Highway 1. The protest involved hundreds of vehicles slowly driving toward "Prison 10," escalating tensions and violent confrontations at several points.
In related violence during the protests, the deputy mayor of Beitar Illit was assaulted and required medical treatment. The driver’s release to house arrest has drawn attention amid ongoing tensions surrounding the ultra-Orthodox community’s opposition to military conscription and law enforcement responses to the protests.
