IDF Chief Vows No Return to Pre-October 6 Policy in Gaza, Pledges Offensive Against Terror Infrastructure

IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir toured the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, emphasizing that the Israeli military has fundamentally changed its operational approach since the events of October 7. Zamir stated that the IDF will maintain a proactive and systematic offensive stance to prevent the resurgence of threats, particularly from Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon. "The IDF is prepared and alert on all fronts. We will not allow our enemies along the borders, especially in Gaza and Lebanon, to rebuild their strength," Zamir declared, underscoring a shift away from the previous policy of threat containment.

During his visit, Zamir met with Southern Command Chief Major General Yaniv Asor, Gaza Division Commander Brigadier General Liron Batito, and other brigade and battalion commanders who briefed him on the operational situation and ongoing military activities in the area. He reiterated that the IDF remains committed to the core objectives of disarming Hamas and dismantling its military capabilities in Gaza.

Zamir also addressed the ongoing pursuit of militants responsible for the October 7 massacre, describing it as a long-term, high-priority mission. "Anyone involved in the massacre will live under pursuit until they are eliminated," he said, highlighting the IDF's dedication to this task. He noted that the military has learned from the failures preceding the attack and will no longer tolerate threats, stating, "We have investigated and are implementing lessons learned. There will be no more containment of threats. We will not allow the enemy to rebuild."

Acknowledging the heavy burden on reservists, some of whom are serving extended tours, Zamir expressed awareness of the exceptional challenges faced by soldiers and their families and affirmed the IDF's commitment to support them. The visit and statements reflect a clear shift in Israeli military doctrine toward sustained offensive operations against terror infrastructures in Gaza and Lebanon.
