IDF Chief Visits Gaza, Vows Continued Pursuit of October 7 Attackers and Hamas Disarmament

IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir conducted a frontline visit to the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, accompanied by Southern Command Chief Major General Yaniv Asor and Gaza Division Commander Brigadier General Liron Batito. During the tour, Zamir received operational briefings from commanders and praised the troops for their efforts to protect Israeli civilians.

Zamir emphasized the ongoing nature of Israel’s multi-front conflict, marking nearly three years since the October 7 attacks. He highlighted the IDF’s successes across various theaters including Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, and Iran, stating that Israeli forces have significantly weakened enemy capabilities and infrastructure.

Regarding Gaza, Zamir reiterated the IDF’s primary objective to disarm Hamas and demilitarize the Strip using all necessary means. He stressed the continuous, systematic campaign against Hamas and its leadership to prevent the group’s resurgence.

On the pursuit of militants involved in the October 7 massacre, Zamir declared, "Anyone who took part in the massacre will live under pursuit until they are eliminated," describing this as a long-term mission fully supported by the IDF command.

Zamir also noted a strategic shift in the IDF’s approach following the October 7 events, rejecting previous doctrines that allowed threats to persist. He affirmed the army’s commitment to preventing enemy rebuilding and terror infrastructure establishment, while remaining attentive to the concerns of local residents.

The Chief of Staff acknowledged the rotation of forces between fronts, recalling his recent meeting with commanders on the northern border and praising the ongoing achievements of units now operating in Gaza. He also recognized the challenges faced by reservists called up for extended service, affirming the IDF’s dedication to supporting them and their families.
