Bus Driver Assaulted on Bnei Brak to Modi'in Illit Route, Suspect Detained

In the early hours of Thursday morning, a public bus driver on the route from Bnei Brak to Modi'in Illit was assaulted by several youths during the trip. The driver sustained bodily injuries and required medical treatment following the attack. Upon receiving the report, investigators from the Modi'in Illit police station in the Shomron district opened an inquiry and collected the driver's testimony. According to the driver and footage from the bus camera, a young suspect broke through the protective partition and repeatedly punched and kicked the driver before fleeing the scene. Bystanders witnessed the incident but did not intervene.

Police conducted multiple efforts to identify and locate those involved. After several attempts to find the suspect at his residence, he surrendered to the Bnei Brak police station on Monday evening. He was transferred to Modi'in Illit for questioning on charges of assaulting a public servant and causing significant bodily harm. Following his interrogation, the suspect was detained overnight. On Tuesday morning, he appeared before the court, which extended his detention by three days until August 27 to allow further investigation. The police continue to probe the case.
