Israeli Journalist Oren Nahari Writes Moving Farewell Before Passing from ALS

Oren Nahari, a veteran Israeli journalist and media figure, passed away at age 70 after battling ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). Hundreds, including colleagues, friends, and family, attended his funeral on Thursday, where a poignant eulogy he wrote himself was read aloud. Nahari reflected on his life and unfulfilled plans, expressing gratitude for the good life he had despite the illness.

In his farewell, Nahari shared his thoughts on death and the future he had envisioned before his condition worsened. He mentioned dreams of traveling the world, skydiving, slowing down his TV appearances, completing his books, and spending quality time with his wife Vered, children, and grandchildren. He described his life as "good overall," highlighting his passion for journalism and the meaningful experiences he gained.

Nahari was a prominent figure in Israeli foreign news, known for his work with the Israel Broadcasting Authority's Channel One, where he edited and presented the program "Ro'im Olam" (Seeing the World). After the authority's closure, he continued as a foreign news editor and commentator at Walla! news website. In his later years, he hosted the popular radio show "Shabbat with Oren Nahari" and lectured on history and geopolitics.

Born and raised in Haifa, Nahari graduated from the Hebrew Reali School and studied political science and international relations at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His final radio program aired in August 2026, just days before his death. He is survived by his wife Vered.
