IDF Central Command Revises Restriction Order Against Right-Wing Activist Tal Yinon Dardik

Following a Jerusalem District Court ruling, IDF Central Command Chief Major General Avi Blot amended the restriction order against right-wing activist Tal Yinon Dardik. Originally, Dardik was placed under house arrest, but the court rejected this condition, citing the lack of consent from the homeowner. Instead, Dardik will now be banned from entering the entire West Bank region except for the city of Modi'in Illit, where he must report to the local police station twice daily.

The court upheld the security assessment that Dardik poses a significant threat, validating the issuance of the restriction order as justified and proportionate. However, it allowed the commander to modify the order’s terms, which led to the current arrangement. The original order’s expiration date remains unchanged. Additionally, if Dardik agrees to wear an electronic monitoring device, the military may consider easing the restrictions.

Throughout the legal process and even before criminal proceedings began, the Shin Bet and IDF sought alternative measures to detention, but Dardik declined to propose any alternatives. The decision to amend rather than reissue the order followed the court’s affirmation of the security concerns and the legality of the initial order.

This case has unfolded amid tensions between Defense Minister Yoav Katz and Major General Blot, sparked by the minister’s announcement regarding the appointment of the next Central Command chief.
