IDF Central Command Chief Defies Defense Minister, Extends Restriction Order on Officer Suspected of Abuse in West Bank

Major General Avi Blot, commander of the IDF Central Command, has decided to renew the administrative restriction order against Tal Yinon Dradik, who is suspected of abusing a Palestinian, despite opposition from Defense Minister Israel Katz. Blot ruled that Dradik will be barred from entering the West Bank, except for the city of Modi'in Illit, where he must report to the police station twice daily.

Defense Minister Katz had requested that Blot not renew the order, but since the minister lacks the authority to intervene in this matter, Blot exercised his command prerogative to extend the restriction. Meanwhile, a hearing is scheduled for tomorrow at the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court, where Judge Amir Shaked will consider a petition by the Honenu organization seeking Dradik's immediate release from detention.

The petition, submitted by attorney Moshe Polsky, asks the court to order Dradik's immediate release following the Jerusalem District Court's rejection of Blot's appeal and acceptance of the military court's ruling that the previous administrative order was invalid and should be canceled. The renewal of the order may complicate the release request.
